Gym Machine Circuit for Beginners

A beginner-friendly machine circuit to learn effort, breathing, and weekly consistency.

Overview

Machines reduce balance demands so beginners can focus on effort and range. Use this as a bridge into free-weight patterns — not a forever ceiling.

Weekly schedule

  • Day 1— Machine full body

    • Leg press
    • Chest press
    • Seated row
    • Leg curl
    • Cable core
  • Day 2— Machine full body B

    • Hack or belt squat if available
    • Shoulder press machine
    • Lat pulldown
    • Leg extension
    • Cable face pull
  • Day 3— Optional repeat A

    • Same as Day 1 with small load bumps

Set and rep guidance

Primary compounds: 6–12 reps for 3–4 sets. Isolation: 8–15 reps for 2–4 sets. Weekly hard sets per major muscle: roughly 10–20. Leave 2–3 reps in reserve on most sets.

Progression

Use double progression on compounds: stay in the rep range for 2–3 sessions, then add the smallest plate jump. Deload every 6–8 weeks or when joints feel beat up. Add a rep or a small load increase when you finish all sets in the target range with good form.

Who it's for

True beginners nervous about barbells on day one.
